John Ommani

John is married to Janet K. Ommani. They have three children.

I am from western part of Kenya. I grew up in a Christian family. On both
side my grand parents were first generation Christians and were involved in
church planting in our region and beyond. I converted to Christian during my
second year of junior high and was exposed to missions first hand experience
in 1983.

I have a BA in Religion and Anthropology from the University of Nairobi, MA
in translation from the African International University (then known as
NEGST), and I am currently taking Doctorate in Cross Cultural Studies at
Fuller Theological Seminary in California.

I currently serve in Scripture engagement department as a trainer for Africa
area. Before then, I worked under BTL as a Bible translator among the
Tharaka people of Central Kenya in 1994-1998. In 1998 to 2002, I served in
the coast region supervising translation programs and projects in six
languages groups that are among Islamic hot places of Kenya. In 2002 mid to
end 2007, I served at the national office as language programs manager in
charge of all language work in 14 projects that BTL had across the country.
This role involved very many different tasks. I then joined AFA in 2007
September in my current role.

My desire is to train people who will be able to assist millions in Africa
to be able to engage Scripture and Culture in a more relevant way thus
helping many make informed decisions about Christianity.
